Neglected Nkwanta town roads to see facelift

-

The dreadful condition of roads in Nkwanta Township and the Keri-Pawa stretch in the Oti Region is set to undergo a significant facelift. Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Felix Owusu-Gyimah has awarded a contract for 2.7 kilometers and 7.8 kilometers of spot improvement with bitumen and rehabilitation.

The pothole-ridden and uneven roads in Nkwanta Township have been a source of frustration for residents, making travel difficult.

This initiative, under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Region Social Cohesion (SOCO) project, aims to upgrade town and road infrastructure, ensuring better accessibility and improved living conditions in the municipal capital.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Felix Owusu-Gyimah, highlighted the importance of the project for the town’s growth and development.

According to him, improving the municipal township roads will not only facilitate easier movement for residents but also attract investors and boost local businesses.

He added that the initiative, under the SOCO project, is part of a broader strategy to enhance infrastructure across the municipality, addressing long-standing issues related to poor road conditions.

In addition to enhancing transportation, a 7.8-kilometer stretch from Keri to Pawa will be rehabilitated to contribute to the economic upliftment of the adjoining communities.

The MCE assured that the projects will be completed within six months without any disruptions.

He urged residents to cooperate with the contractors to ensure a smooth process.

The Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly Engineer, Denis Mensah, elaborated on the technical aspects of the improvement works.

He noted that the Nkwanta town roads and the Keri-Pawa stretch selected for this Phase 2 SOCO project will undergo significant spot improvements to enhance accessibility.

The Keri-Pawa project will also incorporate the construction of five pipe culverts to mitigate flooding during the rainy season, a common challenge faced along the road.

He also urged community members to support the contractors to ensure the efficient completion of the projects.
