NDC’s demo is to prevent war – Aseidu Nketia

-

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says that the party’s demonstration against the Electoral Commission, is aimed at preventing war.

According to him, efforts must be made to combat elements that could escalate into war.

Addressing protestors in Accra at the party’s “Enough is Enough” demonstrations at the Electoral Commission, Mr Aseidu Nketia argued that inaction could lead to a worsening situation, and urged all Ghanaians to take a stand to prevent it.

The protests, held on September 17, 2024, involved thousands of NDC members and supporters across all 16 regions of Ghana.

Their main demand is for the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a forensic audit of the voters register ahead of the 2024 elections, which the EC has rejected as unnecessary.

Many others have called the protests as premature because the EC is engaged in cleaning the register after the mandatory public exhibition.

Mr Aseidu Nketia however, warned that if their demands are not met, more protests will follow, targeting district and constituency offices of the EC.

“Today is just the beginning. If you think that after the demonstration, everybody will go to sleep, you are joking,” he added.

He also criticised those who claim to support peace but ignore perceived wrongdoing, stating that such actions contribute to the brewing of conflict.
