NDC yet to provide evidence of voter register discrepancies – Jean Mensa says

Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not provided concrete evidence to support claims of discrepancies in the voter’s register ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Addressing the matter at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, October 1, Jean Mensa clarified that while the EC is open to scrutiny, the NDC has not submitted specific data to back its allegations of inconsistencies.

Despite repeated invitations from the Commission for the party to substantiate their claims, no evidence has been presented.

“The NDC raised five categories of issues with the register. We asked them to provide further details, but assured them these concerns are typical of any voter’s register and are exactly what the exhibition process is designed to identify and rectify,” she stated.

Jean Mensa reiterated that the current voter’s register is still provisional and undergoing updates.

“It is for these reasons that this IPAC meeting has been organized to enable all parties to present any evidence on discrepancies in the voters register, but it must be noted that the current register is not perfect, and not final,” she added.

The EC Chairperson further urged all political parties, including the NDC, to engage constructively with the EC and continue working towards a credible and accurate register.

“The register is not yet perfect, nor is it final. We remain committed to delivering a transparent and fair election,” she said.
