'NDC will be in opposition till I am buried'

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said that the only time that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will rule Ghana once more is when, he, Nana Obiri Boahene is dead and buried.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Monday, the Lawyer said the NDC will not win elections anytime soon because the Electoral Commission (EC) which had been aiding the party win political power will soon be overhauled.
“I don’t trust this current Electoral Commission one-bit…they had been helping the NDC win elections, it has never been a credible institution from the days of Afari Gyan till now…the NDC can never win a credible elections…,” he said.
The NDC, he added, will only win elections in Ghana only after he, Obiri Boahen is dead and long buried.
The NDC lost the 2016 elections with its candidate, President John Dramani Mahama gaining 44.4% as against Nana Akufo-Addo’s 53.85%.
The NDC also lost several parliamentary seats as well.
The EC led by Charlotte Osei has also come under serious criticisms after the elections with politicians accusing her of being bias towards the NDC during the 2016 elections.
Some workers of the commission also petitioned the President for the removal of the impeachment of the EC. The unnamed staff petitioned the President through their counsel, Maxwell Opoku Agyemang, over allegations of fraud and abuse of office against Mrs Osei.
The Attorney General has empaneled a five-member committee to investigate the EC Chairperson Charlotte Osei together with her two deputies, Georgina Opoku Amankwah who is in charge of Corporate Service and Amadu Sulley, in charge of Operations as prescribed under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
Before the committee concludes its work, Nana Obiri Boehen insist he has lost faith in the EC. He claims the EC has in the past under-performed and has instead been assisting the NDC wins elections.
“No wonder the NDC is where they are, they had continually relied on the support of the EC, but now, we will see, where they will get to.
“Over the dead bodies of some of us will the NDC win back power once again…,” he said.
