NDC Victory: A bold opportunity to transform Ghana’s agriculture and economy – Klutse Kudomor speaks

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has secured victory in Ghana’s recent general elections, entrusted by the people to lead the nation over the next four years.

Amid nationwide celebrations, agribusiness consultant Klutse Kudomor has outlined critical steps the incoming government must take to address pressing economic and agricultural challenges.

Drawing on his experience with Nestlé Central and West Africa, Youth in Agriculture, and the Ghana Agricultural Sector Investment Programme, Mr. Kudomor has proposed a comprehensive plan to position agriculture as a cornerstone of economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development.

Congratulating the President-Elect, Mr. Kudomor hailed the NDC’s victory as a reflection of Ghanaians’ trust but emphasized the immense responsibility that comes with it.

“To whom much is given, much is expected,” he stated, urging the new government to prioritize restoring economic stability, addressing illegal mining, and revitalizing sectors such as agriculture and infrastructure.

Mr. Kudomor highlighted agriculture as the backbone of Ghana’s economic revival. He advocated for the promotion of cash crops like coconut and mango, particularly in the Volta and Central Regions, to complement cocoa production in the Western, Ashanti, and Eastern Regions.

“Coconut oil is now among the safest oils globally for food production. Transforming regions like Volta into hubs for coconut cultivation and processing will create jobs and boost exports,” he explained.

He also underscored the potential of rice production to meet national demand and reduce imports. “With the right investments, Ghana can produce enough rice to feed the nation and export the surplus,” he added.

Mr. Kudomor pointed to aquaculture as a transformative sector, citing the Volta Region’s abundant water resources. He highlighted the success of local entrepreneurs in fingerling production as an example of scalable initiatives.

“Stocking water bodies with fingerlings and supporting fishermen and women can enhance food security and create significant employment opportunities,” he noted.

Beyond agriculture, Mr. Kudomor emphasized the need to tackle infrastructure challenges, particularly abandoned projects such as schools and roads.

“In my village, residents have had to construct their own schools and roads—a stark reminder of the gaps we must bridge,” he lamented. He called for the completion of unfinished projects to improve access to basic amenities and support community development.

Mr. Kudomor also advocated for formalizing informal jobs, such as motorcycle (Okada) operations. He proposed implementing training programs to enhance safety and professionalism, which would dignify the work and increase productivity.

“We must equip our youth with the knowledge and tools to work safely and effectively,” he emphasized.

Urging the NDC to act decisively, Mr. Kudomor stressed that the next four years will be pivotal in meeting the expectations of Ghanaians.

“Ghanaians are watching closely. The government’s success will determine its future. Agriculture, infrastructure, and youth employment must be prioritized,” he remarked.

Mr. Kudomor expressed optimism that with innovative policies, Ghana’s economy could be revitalized. “Local production of rice, coconut, and fish can unlock sustainable development, create jobs, and foster economic growth,” he concluded.

As the NDC takes the reins of governance, the opportunity to turn challenges into opportunities is clear. By embracing strategic actions and fostering inclusive growth, this administration has the chance to chart a path to lasting prosperity for Ghana.
