Attempts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to amend a provision that stipulates that Communications Officers are elected, has been met with a stiff opposition from delegates, leading to its suspension.
The party had earmarked the provision for amendmentĀ at its ongoing congress but when the clause was read on the floor of Congress to delegates, it was met with a fierce opposition.
āNo no no no no,ā the delegates shouted in protest to the proposed amendment.
The loud protests from the delegates forced the party’s hand to back down on the proposal and pave the way for the party to continue to elect officers into the position.
āWe are suspending this amendment,ā the Master of Ceremony for the Congress announced.
At this year’s Congress, three members of the party, Samuel Gyemfi, Fred Agbenyo and Solomon Nkansah are contesting to occupy the position of National Communications Officer.
But for the protests, the process of getting communication officers for the party through elections would have been amended to make way for appointments.
Some 15,000 people, made up of 9,350 delegates and 5,650 observers, are gathered at the Fantasy Dome of the International Trade Fair Centre in Accra for the NDCās national delegates congress.
This yearās congress is the 9th National Annual Congress of the party.
A record number of 65 aspirants, consisting of 59 males and six females are vying for various national executive positions of the party.
