Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has justified the actions of rampaging individuals linked to the party who are vandalizing and attacking state properties.
Mr. Gbande has stated that the NDC supporters are only protecting state properties and not looting, as purported.
In an interview on Accra-based Citi FM, he emphasized the NDC’s commitment to peace and collaboration with law enforcement agencies to maintain calm.
“The young people of this country are determined to change the narrative, where government property and funds are stolen with impunity,” Mr. Gbande stated.
“It is unfortunate, but I think we should appreciate those who are sacrificing to preserve and protect state property,” he said.
He further contended that the allegations of theft were unwarranted.
“If they were stealing and taking these assets home, that would be a different matter,” he remarked.
“However, if they are moving to protect state assets from being taken away by government officials, then it is a situation that the party has recognized and is addressing,” he added.
Mr. Gbande assured that the NDC has taken the matter seriously and was actively engaging with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to restore calm.
Additionally, he said the NDC was engaging with individuals from the immediate past government to help bring stability.
“We are dealing with this in a manner that ensures the protection of state assets and upholds the rule of law,” he assured.
