NDC speaks on viral video of angry Doromakese chiefs [Audio]

-

National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nkoranza North has clarified circumstances which caused chiefs in Doromakese to invoke curses on Monday.

According to the party, there seems to be a malicious attempt to misinterpret their actions and mar the relationship with traditional authorities.

The chief of Doromakese, Obrempong Danso Abeam and his elders on Monday invoked curses on the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama and the parliamentary candidate and MP, Joseph Mensah over what they term as disrespect.

They said Mr Mahama failed to honour his promise to visit the palace as part of his campaign tour.

They waited without meeting Mr Mahama until around 7: pm when they heard he had left the town.

But in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, the Communication Officer, Osei Nyamekye Benign stated that the party did not promise the chief that Mr Mahama will visit the palace.

“Mr Mahama had promised to come at 1:30pm but due to unforeseen circumstances, he arrived around 5pm and the expectation was that the chiefs will be at the rally.

“Our coordinator was sent to the palace to inform the chiefs and the chiefs requested that he comes to the palace instead but the campaign team declined so Mahama left after addressing the people,” he stated.

Mr. Osei-Nyamekye emphasized that, the NDC does not support any disrespect towards Nananom.

“When Mahama heard the chiefs were expecting him, he passed by the palace and interacted with them for over 30 minutes. So this incident shouldn’t create the impression that any executive orchestrated it,” he added.

Mr Osei-Nyamekye further urged all NDC supporters, especially those in Doromakese and Nkoranza North, to remain calm as they engage with the traditional leaders to resolve any misunderstandings.
