NDC is not giving NPP stiffer opposition- Dr. Oduro Osae

The Dean of Studies and Research of the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), Dr. Eric Oduro-Osae says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is not giving President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo and his government stiffer opposition.
According to him, the government is enjoying too much freedom to operate- a situation he blamed the the opposition party for.
He called on the NDC to give NPP a tough time in government so they can live up to expectation and deliver their promises.
“The NDC is not giving the NPP the kind of opposition Ghanaians deserve as a party” Dr. Oduro Osae on Wednesday told host of Adom FM’s Burning Issues programme Afia Pokua six months of President Akufo-Addo’s regime.
“As a Ghanaian I wish the NDC would have been harder on the government than what we’re witnessing now, but I think the NPP is enjoying some leverage and the freedom to operate which the opposition need to up their game” Dr. Oduro Osae stressed.
Despite the series of press conferences by the opposition NDC Minority Members in Parliament led by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu to ensure good governance and accountability in the country, Dr. Oduro Osae believes that the opposition MPs should up their game as a former Senior Minister of state, J. H Mensah and President Akufo-Addo were loud and very critical in opposition on ex-President JJ Rawlings.
“Democracy is useless without a very strong opposition party, so the NDC MPs should give NPP MPs in Parliament a hot chase of our money to the benefit of the citizenry” Dr. Oduro Osae told Afia Pokua.
The governance expert said the Minority should sit up and be more critical as the then NPP’s [running mate], now the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia was very hard on the John Dramani Mahama’s administration opposition with his series of lecturers proving alternative solutions to the ruling government.
Dr. Oduro Osae added that the General Secretary of NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia should up his game by reuniting the party to show the direction to hold the government more accountable.
On the government performance, Dr Oduro-Osae who also doubles as Public Financial Management Expert said President Akufo-Addo should ensure that his government presents the 2018 budget in Parliament by November ending to ensure proper planning.
Contributing to the discussion, the head of Department of Public Administration and Health Services Management at the University of Ghana Business School, Dr. Justice Nyigmah Bawole said the government is still struggling six months in power.
