Chairman of the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament, Seth Kwame Acheampong, has expressed shock at the position taken by the Minority in parliament, following the ratification of the controversial Defense Corporation Agreement between Ghana and the United States of America (USA).
He revealed that, Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Committee voted for the passage of the agreement thus could not fathom the “ugly noises” being made by them on the issue.

Hon. Acheampong’s reaction comes after the Minority dismissed reports on social media purporting to be the votes and proceedings of Parliament on the controversial Defense Corporation Agreement between Ghana and the USA.
The posts suggest that 14 MPs from the NDC voted for the defense deal to pass while only 10 MPs from the governing NPP’s side approved same.
But in a quick rebuttal, NDC MP from Builsa North and a former Deputy Defence Minister, James Agalga, described the publication as “palpable falsehood designed to save face by certain misguided traitors within the NPP”.

But on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Monday, Hon. Acheampong said a careful scrutiny of the Votes and Proceedings showed that the NDC was for the agreement contrary to what they want the public to believe.
He said the u-turn by the NDC is borne out of the outpouring of anger and the feeling of betrayal by Ghanaians following the ratification by Parliament.

The Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament maintained that, there is nothing in the agreement that will be detrimental to Ghana’s future.
“There is nothing in the agreement which violates the laws of Ghana but the Minority is being disingenuous for cheap political points”.
Hon. Acheampong who is also the MP for Mpreaso in the Eastern region urged Ghanaians to disregard the NDC since they [MPs] did due diligence to ensure Ghana benefits from the joint military corporation.
