A group of individuals, believed to be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), reportedly attacked police officers at the Electoral Commission office in Awutu Bereku, Central Region, for recording them as they locked state institutions in the area.
The group allegedly stormed multiple government offices, including the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office and the Social Welfare office, forcibly locking them and ejecting both workers and visitors.
Reports indicate that the task force arrived on motorbikes, disrupting activities and ordering all workers and clients to leave the premises.
According to eyewitness Kojo Manu, the NDC members confronted a police officer who had recorded their actions.
They reportedly assaulted him, seized his mobile phone, and deleted the videos.
‘They attacked one officer, took his phone, and deleted the videos he recorded while they were locking the offices,’ Kojo Manu recounted in an interview with Adom News.
He also alleged that one of the officers attempted to retrieve an AK-47 rifle during the altercation.
In a related incident, Kojo Manu noted that over 50 pregnant women who had visited the NHIS office to renew their cards or seek assistance were also driven away by the group.
The situation has raised concerns about the safety of state institutions and the need for swift action to restore order in the area.
