NDC has developed Zongo communities more than any political party – Mahama

-

National Democratic Congress(NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama has reiterated his dedication to improve infrastructure in the Zongo communities when elected President on December 7.

According to him, the NDC is a better manager and developer of the Zongo communities, a track record no political party can match and they remain committed.

The former President made the remarks when Muslim leaders in the Ashanti region held special prayers for him as part of his campaign tour.

The event was also used to discuss the development of their people and towns, plus the NDC’s vision or proposals moving into the elections.

John Mahama used the occasion to remind the gathering of key interventions his party has brought to their people.

Mr Mahama touched on medical scholarships which the Muslim communities benefited from under his watch, building of specialised schools and health facilities, improving hajj travels among others.

“During the tenure of late Prof Mills, I was in charge of a scholarship scheme to send 200 students to Cuba and out of that, 67 were from the Zongo communities; 26 were females and now, all these people are trained doctors.

“During my tenure as President, 400 people from the Zongo communities were also sent to Arabic countries to study,” he touted.

According to him, the notion that his party has done nothing for Zongo communities and Muslim should be discarded, urging them to know the truth.

“People were travelling to Accra before Hajj and were sleeping at the El-Wak Sports Satdium but we thought it wise to establish the Hajj Village which they now lodge before the trip,” he stated.

John Mahama further indicated that, the National Chiefs Imam’s manifesto he sent to the NDC has been captured in the party’s manifesto.

“In our 2024 manifesto, there has been proposal on 14 policies that can help the Zongo communities when the NDC comes into power. Before the Chief Imam brought it, 12 we were already in the manifesto

He assured them of his commitment to develop their areas if elected President.
