Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the New Juaben North constituency of the Eastern Region have intercepted 24,000 bags of NPK-21 fertilizer in Koforidua.
The fertilizers, allegedly intended for distribution to farmers, were discovered being offloaded into an abandoned church building following a tip-off.
A heated confrontation erupted between the transporters, EV Logistics, and the NDC officials, who accused the handlers of diverting the items for private gain.
Speaking to the media, the NDC parliamentary candidate for New Juaben North, Samuel Adongo, revealed that, three officers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture who were at the scene drove away in a Ministry-branded pickup vehicle when he approached them for clarification regarding the intended recipients of the fertilizers.
Mr Adongo stated that, while the police have initiated investigations, the NDC is committed to ensuring the fertilizers remain secured until the next government assumes office.
Officials of EV Logistics have declined to comment on the incident.
