Former Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Enoch Teye Mensah has disclosed that some big wigs in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) including the General Secreatry of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia endorsed his decision to contest the Council of State race.

He revealed in a radio interview that he had the backing and endorsement of the NDC Greater Accra Regional Council of Elders and therefore could not fathom why some elements in the party kicked against his bid.

“I wasn’t appointed to go to council of state. Constitution states that there shall be a council of state to counsel the president and how it should be composed. It stated that a public servant and not an NPP or NDC person. We must grow in this country.

“Even President Mills when he was alive included other people who were not NDC to serve as council of state members and so if I decided to join not as political person but a Ghanaian who want to serve, then it is seen as wrong thing.

“I consulted the Greater Accra council of elders who then endorsed me. Even Asiedu Nketia sent me a text message and endorsed me and my colleagues in Parliament and other big wigs also endorsed me so I didn’t understand why some party people were angry just because I have decided to serve my country,” he said on Accra based Neat fm.

Mr E.T Mensah, disclosed that he pulled out of the Council of State race in the Greater Accra region because of the insults hurled at him.

The former Minister of Sports announced his withdrawal a few hours before polls opened nationwide, citing “personal reasons.”

He stressed after pulling out that his grandchildren could no longer stomach the invectives that were thrown at him through social media, and had no option than to withdraw.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ideal Financial Holdings Dr. Nii Kotei Dzani won the Greater Accra region Council of State election.

Dr. Dzani who was voted the Banking & Finance Entrepreneur for the year 2015 at the sixth Ghana Entrepreneur Awards polled 20 votes followed by Nene Kanor Attiapah with 12 votes.
