NDC does not lack intellectuals – Kofi Adams

National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams says the party does not lack intellectuals.

According to him, the party has a lot of intellectuals whose contributions have helped put Ghana on a higher pedestal.

Mr. Adams who was also the NDC’s National Campaign Coordinator of the 2016 elections was reacting to claim that the Kwesi Botchwey Committee which investigated the factors that led to their humiliating defeat said the NDC lacked intellectuals.

The 13-member Kwesi Botchwey Committee constituted and mandated to investigate what caused the embarrassing defeat of the NDC at the 2016 polls.

The team presented a 455-page report to the National Executive Council detailing the party’s shortfall hence defeat.

They also recommended among other things that the party broadens its research base to include some intellectuals but this has been misconstrued by many.

Setting the records straight, Kofi Mr Adams on Accra-based Class FM Wednesday said the Kwesi Botchwey report never said the NDC lacked intellectuals.

Rather, he explained that, the 455-page report directed the party to increase their research base to crowd their intellectual base but not to hunt for intellectuals to aid the party’s functions.

“The report never said NDC lack intellectuals. It says we should increase our research base and in doing so we should crowd in our intellectual base. It didn’t say we should go and hunt for intellectuals, we have them already. If we didn’t utilize them fully in a coordinated manner, they are only asking us to use them fully…” he maintained.

Mr Adams further could not fathom why the NDC party would lack intellectuals when the party already holds solid intellectuals who have served in government.

“Look at the number of persons [intellectuals] out there in the party. Even Professor Botchwey and his committee, the vice chancellors who served in government are true intellectuals. So how would the report say we lack intellectuals…?”
