NDC accuses EC of deliberate attempts to suppress strongholds

-

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is alleging there are deliberate attempts by the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission (EC) to suppress the party’s strongholds in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the NDC, the EC has demonstrated certain postures which they find convincing enough.

Addressing a news conference at the NDC’s Headquarters in Accra, Thursday, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the National Chairman of the NDC said there are a lot of problems with electoral management prior to the 2020 elections.

“There are conscious plans by the EC to suppress votes in NDC strongholds with efforts to increase votes in New Patriotic Party constituencies.

“NDC has not been furnished with the Voters Register despite the numerous letters written to the Commission,” he said.

According to him, the NDC is willing to cooperate with the EC but expects the leader of the EC and its members to demonstrate they are willing to listen to dissenting views.

“We will call on the media, civil society and other groups to monitor closely the activities of the Jean Mensa and the Bossman Asare EC and make common calls to ensure that the EC complies with its own regulations, it’s transparent and principled.”
