NCA Honours Lucy Quist, Ebenezer Asante

Vice President for Southern and East Africa and Ghana (SEAGHA) Region of MTN, Ebenezer Asante, and outgoing Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Ghana, Lucy Quist have both been commended for the varied roles they played in helping grow Ghana’s telecommunication industry. The two, who are exiting the Chief Executive roles of their respective companies were honoured at a farewell cocktail by the Board and Management of the National Communications Authority.

Welcoming the guests who were made of industry players, Mr. Joe Anokye, the Ag. Director General of the NCA said, the Authority was privileged to celebrate the two industry icons who had distinguished themselves in the management portfolios within the industry. He also paid tribute to their various contributions.

On his part and in a message from the Minister for Communications, Honourable George Andah, Deputy Minister of Communications and MP for Awutu Senya West, recounted various opportunities where the two had been instrumental in helping to drive the industry.

There were goodwill messages from other guests present at the event.

The event was climaxed with the reading of citations in their honour by the Board Chairman of the NCA, Mr. Kwaku Sakyi-Addo. The citations were then presented to the celebrants by the Deputy Minister.

Excerpts of the citation for Mrs. Lucy Quist read, “You have steered Airtel Ghana as a business in a very vibrant market to great strides in achieving the very high and demanding targets that the telecommunication sector sets; through the very difficult merger process, you have been at the helm in steering the Airtel Ghana ship through different terrains into what will be Ghana’s biggest telco after the merger”.

For Mr. Asante, who continues to act as CEO of MTN Ghana pending the appointment of a substantive CEO, the citation said among others that “The NCA is in no doubt that these experiences and the dexterity with which you lead is what has culminated in your promotion as the new Vice President (VP) of MTN Group to oversee the operations of the company in Southern and East Africa and Ghana (SEAGHA) Region”.

In responding to the toasts and goodwill messages, Mrs. Quist said one of her key objectives in joining the industry was to contribute effectively to the benefit of the industry and individuals.

On his part, Mr. Asante said he valued the contributions of all those he had had the opportunity to work with and advised that all Ghanaians should endeavor to play their part in building the country.

The event was attended by board members and management of the NCA, industry players including Ms. Roshi Motman, Chief Executive Officer of the merged Airtel/TIGO entity, Mr. Derek Obuobi, Country Manager of Glo Ghana, Mr. Gayheart Mensah from Vodafone as well as other representatives from the Telecom Chamber and other industry players.
