National Economic Dialogue is good but… – Oppong Nkrumah

-

Ofoase-Ayirebi Member of Parliament (MP) Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has commended President John Mahama for the proposed National Economic Dialogue.

Mr. Nkrumah has said such a dialogue is good and strengthens democracy.

However, the former Information Minister has stated that it should not be a session for the ruling government to backtrack on its promises.

“This is not the first time we have had such a dialogue. Before 2012, there were a series of them, and in 2014, there was another in Senchi. Akufo-Addo also held the National Policy Summit. So there must be name changes, but it looks at the same thing,” he stated.

In an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, the lawmaker emphasized that the Ghanaian youth voted massively for President Mahama with high expectations; therefore, any disappointment would be a disaster.

“It should not be business as usual. We should look at implementing solutions and not repeat mistakes of the past. We must have feasible and workable ideas,” he stated.

He reiterated the Minority’s pledge not to be a destructive opposition, stressing they will keep an eye on this dialogue.

“We will point out the good parts, critique the bad parts, and highlight places where we believe the administration is repeating some of the mistakes we made in our last term.”

“The 2025 dialogue should not repeat the mistakes of the 2014 economic forum or the 2017/2018 national policy summits,” he assured.
