Napo has no authority to promise return of excavators – Aide

-

The spokesperson for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate), Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has insisted he never said NPP would return all excavators seized during the crackdown on illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.

According to him, Napo as he is popularly known in his current status has no authority to make such a promise.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Fiifi Boafo stated that the video had been doctored and must be disregarded.

“Immediately I saw the video on social media, I asked the media team about it and they dismissed it. We went back to check the video and indeed he didn’t say that,” he said.

Mr Boafo stated that the NPP’s primary aim has always been to promote responsible mining in a way that benefits the people and stimulates economic growth without compromising the environment.

“Napo has no intention to say that and he has no authority make that promise as it stands now. A specific part has been introduced to the video because that was not part of the conversation. How much does the excavators cost and where are they?” he quizzed.

A circulating video captured NAPO, addressing chiefs and residents of Prestea Huni Valley and Mpohor in the Western Region.

He stated that NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has no plans to ban small-scale mining and would eventually return the confiscated earthmoving machines.

However, Mr Boafo has emphasized that the statements attributed to Napo are false and misleading.
