Former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nana Yaa Jantuah, has officially endorsed John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Speaking to Joy News during the NDC’s final campaign rally at Zurak Park in Madina, Accra, she expressed her strong support for Mahama, citing his leadership experience and the need for a new direction in Ghana’s governance.
“I am here because of John Mahama. I believe Ghana needs to be liberated and freed from the current challenges. The only political party capable of leading this change right now is the NDC,” she stated.
Nana Yaa Jantuah highlighted Mahama’s track record as a former president, emphasizing his accomplishments and leadership qualities. “I am officially endorsing John Mahama to be the next president of Ghana.
He has led this country before and did so remarkably well. I believe it’s time to give him a second chance to complete the good work he started,” she added.
Her endorsement has raised questions about whether she has officially switched allegiance from the CPP to the NDC.
Nana Yaa Jantuah previously served as the Public Relations and External Affairs Manager at the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).
She resigned as General Secretary of the CPP in December 2023 after members across the country petitioned the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to remove all national executives, citing alleged incompetence.
The NEC subsequently passed a vote of no confidence in all national executives during a crucial meeting in Kumasi.
Nana Yaa Jantuah had been elected as the CPP’s General Secretary in August 2020.
