New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye has praised the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for showing political parties respect.
This comes after IGP Dampare invited and held a meeting with the party leadership in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday.
He stated that, the meeting was very insightful and successful.
“As political parties, we were pleased that the police service especially the IGP showed us so much respect. It was a very good meeting, the atmosphere was very calm. We were updated on the progress made by the police after Bryan Acheampong’s statement,” he said on Accra-based Neat FM.
He said the police informed them that, they will begin monitoring political party communicators on various media platforms and punish any law offenders.
Nana B said the police has also cleared former President Mahama and Asiedu Nketia of any crime.
“In the case of President Mahama and Asiedu Nketia, the police told us that the fact that someone’s words are not palatable to you does not make it a crime,” he noted.
Mr Boakye added that, the NPP will heed the Police Service directives and ensure the 2024 elections end peacefully.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has asked the NPP and the opposition NDC not to interfere with their job.
According to the service, there are effective policing interventions to ensure law and order at all times including before, during and post-elections and expect the political parties to support it by constructively criticising it to do professional job in line with its constitutional mandate.
