If Nana Addo can be President at 73; why not me?

The election of a seventy three year old, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana gives me hope that I can still become the President of the country before I die, founder and leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga has said.

The election of Nana Addo as the 5th President of the 4th republic, he said is enough consolation for him to continue fighting on until his ambition of leading the country comes into fruition.

“I believe all power comes from God…Ayariga is only 44 years younger, if someone who’s 73 can be President, then I have more chance of becoming President…,” he said.

Hassan Ayariga first shot into political limelight when he contested the 2012 elections as the Presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC).

He became a thorn in the flesh of the NPP during the polls as supporters of the party claimed he deliberately coughed to prevent viewers and listeners of an IEA from listening to the campaign message of then candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

‘Ayaricof’ became his name and many tagged him as a political comedian.

In 2016, he was disqualified from contesting the Presidential election as flgbearer of the APC which he formed months to the polls.

His disqualification led him to describe the Electoral Commissioner (EC), Charlotte Osei with various unwritten words and threatened further to put an injunction on the polls.

After the elections, Ayariga has been silent and he explained on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Monday that he has been in the country and observing the turn of events by the day.

Hassan Ayariga said he would not want to comment on the governance style of the Nana Addo-led administration ‘because it’s early days yet’.

His refusal to comment on the governance style, he said, does not mean that he has backed out of politics adding that his vision to be President of the country one day is still on course.

“My Presidential ambition is not shattered by anybody and it’s still on course…obviously, I believe the almighty would make President before I die…,” he said.
