The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has pledged to support the family of five killed after their building collapsed on them during a heavy downpour at Negersia near Takoradi in the Western region.
Western Regional NADMO director, Abdul Mahammed, who disclosed this on Adom FMs morning show Dwaso Nsem, Monday said the deaths occurred when a mud house collapsed on a family as a result of torrential downpour in the area.

Takoradi was on Friday, May 31 taken over by floods.
Areas such as Anaji, Effiekuma, Sekondi, Kwansarodo and Intankoful among others were completely submerged by the torrential rainfall.
According to the NADMO director, his outfit had paid a visit to the family of the deceased to commiserate with them and further offered to help them.

NADMO said it will offer the family the necessary help in the run up to the final funeral rites of those who have departed.
“We are very saddened about the situation and have offered to assist them with everything they would need. We have asked them to call on us during the funeral and we will gladly support them,” he said.

The regional director, commenting on the collapsed building, said the building looked very strong and suspected the pressure from the rains caused the building to collapse.
He noted that engineers are currently working on the accident scene to assess the situation and ensure that the building is brought back to life. He added that his outfit would speed up relief efforts for the people in the affected areas.
