My victory has brought shortage of ‘Pito’ – Fmr. IGP Secretary

-

Superintendent Peter Lanchene Tuubo, former Executive Secretary to former Inspector-General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, says that his victory in the just ended primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) brought about a shortage of local beer popularly known as ‘Pito’ in the Wa West constituency.

The retired senior police officer polled 755 as against 317 garnered by veteran politician and former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Joseph Yieleh Chireh to represent the NDC in 2020.

Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show with Kwame Afrifa-Mensah, Tuubo revealed that “Pito has become scarce in the Wa West constituency because of my victory over Yieleh Chireh. Everyone is in a jubilant mood, and pito is what they use to jubilate.”

‘Pito’ is a type of beer made from fermented millet or sorghum in northern Ghana, parts of Nigeria, and other parts of West Africa. It is made by small (household-level) producers, and is typically served in a calabash outside the producer’s home where benches are sometimes provided. ‘Pito’ can be served warm or cold.

Supt. Tuubo also said that he would want to widen the voting gap between him and anyone the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) chooses to represent them in Wa West in the 2020 general election.

In the 2016 general election, Mr Chireh obtained 12,658 votes out of the 30,744 valid votes cast= 42.49%. Others: Adams Patrick Bandanaa (IND) 8,806=29.56%, Dari Daniel Kuusongno (NPP), 7,415=24.89%, Felix S. Pigru (PPP).

Supt. Tuubo retired voluntarily from the Police Service in May this year to contest as a parliamentary candidate for the NDC in Wa West.

He was among 46 people who picked up nomination forms to contest in the parliamentary primaries in all the 11 constituencies of the Upper West region.

Supt. Tuubo is fondly remembered for his infamous presentation on corruption within the police service, and how the public perceives personnel of the service which went viral on various social media platforms.
