My fashion is Ghana made – Samira Bawumia

-

Wife of the vice president, Samira Bawumia, has finally broken her silence about her enviable sense of fashion and confessed her love for Ghanaian-made designs.
According to her, almost everything she wears is locally-made and she loves the designs because “they are exquisite.”
She has also disclosed that she does not try to make any fashion statement with her style of dressing.
Samira made the revelation when she hosted the International Women’s Day edition of The Morning Starr yesterday.
“I don’t try to say anything with my fashion. I just want to be me. It is an expression of me but it is also a celebration of the talents we have in Ghana. Most of what I wear is made in Ghana and they are exquisite designs that our Ghanaians make. And the people who make clothes for me have seen their businesses booming. So for me, it’s also supporting the industry and showcasing Ghanaian fabrics, talents and boosting the industry,” she said.
She also revealed she gets her unique ‘kente’ from all parts of the country but some are specially woven for her.
This year’s International Women’s Day celebrations focused on gender equality for women, which is also captured by the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) Goal 5: “achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls’.
Samira used the occasion to speak about the need for women to be empowered to speak up about sexual abuses. She was joined on the show by legal practitioner Ace Ankomah and Prof Nana Aba Amfo, head of Linguistics at the University of Ghana, Legon.
The comment about her sense of fashion comes at a time there is a lot of buzz about her dress she wore to Ghana’s 61st Ghana Independence Day parade at the Black Star Square in Accra.
Samira wore a nude and gold three-quarter sleeve gown with side peplum which has asymmetric high neck roll collar embellished with pearls to match her clutch and headgear.
A lot of fashion bloggers and journalists have praised the design made with the ‘kente’.
She has also won a lot of followers because of her taste for fashion. She is not just loved but hailed as one of the most beautiful women in Ghana now for her amazing choices in outfits.
