My call-up to the Black Stars was due to hard work – Benjamin Asare

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, has attributed his recent call-up to the Black Stars squad to relentless hard work, consistency, and determination.

The 32-year-old was included in Ghana’s squad for the Matchday 5 and 6 fixtures of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers during the March international break.

Asare was entrusted with the goalkeeping duties for both games, helping the national team secure emphatic victories—a 5-0 win over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium and a commanding 3-0 triumph over Madagascar in Morocco.

His standout performances have earned him widespread praise from football fans and analysts alike, with many lauding his composure and ability to keep clean sheets.

“What I will say is that, with the Black Stars, although it is by the grace of God that I got a call-up, I must also thank the supporters, management, and most of the members, players, and authorities of Ghana,” Asare said.

He continued, “The work I did, I didn’t do it alone. They helped me achieve this, and my determination is that when I am in goal, it won’t be easy to concede.”

Asare stressed that maintaining a high standard in goal is essential for gaining recognition.

“If you are a goalkeeper and you keep a clean sheet, people will notice. So far, I will say that my hard work has helped me earn this call-up,” he added.

The former Great Olympics goalkeeper now hopes to solidify his place in the national team setup.

Ghana is set to compete in a four-nation tournament in June before continuing their World Cup qualifying campaign with crucial fixtures against Chad and Mali in September.
