The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has weighed in on flagbearer John Dramani Mahama’s assertion that four years is sufficient for a President to reset the country.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem on Monday, Mr Gbande chastised President Akufo-Addo’s administration, claiming that eight years of mismanagement and corruption under his leadership could be countered by just four years of effective governance.
Responding to Mahama’s previous claim in 2016 that four years was insufficient for a president, the NDC Deputy General Secretary argued that, the current administration’s tenure has a “weak” foundation, marred by “fraud and corruption.”
He argued that, Mahama’s next four-year term would be more impactful, drawing a stark contrast to what he termed eight years of “lies and deception.”
“If you honestly govern for four years, you will make the impact of 8 years of lies and deception. Stealing from the public for 8 years is the worst thing, comparable to four years of laying a good foundation. If you are building a house and you are laying the foundation Akufo-Addo’s 7 half foundation is weak and retrogression and negative filled with fraud and corruption.
“When Mahama said in 2016 that four years is not enough for a President, he had worked hard but Ghanaians wanted more and voted for Akufo-Addo and he failed them. Anyone that has voted for the NPP has regretted. The biggest mistake that Ghanaians have made is making Akufo-Addo President,” he said.
