The NDC Eastern Regional Chairman, Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, has questioned why some government appointees from the NPP are still occupying their offices after a change of government.
His remarks came in response to recent incidents where some alleged NDC supporters invaded and shut down government offices, claiming they were acting to prevent further looting.
A number of offices and properties have been seized by these individuals.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues, Dr. Kevor expressed his concerns and stated that the party executives have engaged the youth to stop such actions.
However, he also questioned why government appointees were still in their offices, given the change in government. He believes that once a government loses power, its appointees should voluntarily step down.
He said, “We don’t encourage violence; however, the government appointees should not wait to be forced before they leave their offices. You know there is a change of government, why are you still occupying the office? You just have to go on a terminal leave, which connotes self-resignation. Staying there is what provokes our youth.”
Dr. Kevor further noted that when the NPP defeated the NDC in 2016, the NPP’s youth engaged in even more violent actions.
However, he emphasized that mechanisms have been put in place to manage the current situation and prevent further violence.
“I don’t want to revisit the past again, but in 2016, when we lost to the NPP, their youth did worse than this in the Eastern region. As for them, their leader was inciting the youth to attack us. But as I said, we are not going in that direction,” Dr. Kevor concluded.
