A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters who are also sympathisers of the disqualified parliamentary candidate of the party in the Asawase constituency, Mubarick Masawudu, have urged him to go independent.
The supporters insist that should the current Member of Parliament, Muntaka Mubarak, be allowed to go unopposed, the party may lose the seat to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Salim Musah, an aide to Masawudu made their plans known on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.
The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC disqualified Massawudu Mubarick from contesting the Asawase constituency primaries after it established that he had been on the party’s suspension list.

The decision by the FEC means incumbent MP, Muntaka Mubarak, will go unopposed even though a section of the party in the constituency is pained by it.
The decision has remained in force in spite of acts of vandalism perpetrated by his supporters to get it overturned.
As an immediate measure, Salim Musah said they were considering hauling the NDC to court to seek redress.
There are several options opened to us like going independent or going to court so we are consulting, Salim said.
