Mum says names of her twins aloud and realises she’s made embarrassing mistake

Finding the perfect name for your child can be incredibly difficult and it’s even harder when you have to come up with two names if you’re having twins.

But one mum thought she’d found the right combination of names for her fraternal twins.

The Australian parent gave birth to a little girl and a boy and named them Ari and Callum – two names which don’t initially strike you as being out of the ordinary.

However someone soon pointed out to the mum that there was a bit of an embarrassing issue with the names, if you were to swap them around – they sound like a seafood dish.

So if you say Callum first and then Ari, it sounds a lot like you’re saying the word Calamari – which is squid.

Not exactly the ideal food to be named after!

The mum says she was “devastated” when she realised what she’d done, but thankfully she now sees the funny side of it.

Speaking to Mamamia.com.au she said: “I named my twins Ari and Callum. At first that doesn’t seem odd at all… but it never occurred to me to say the names the other way around.

“It didn’t take long for someone to point it out to me. I was devastated at first but now I think it’s hilarious.

“Luckily the twins do too.”

And she’s not the only one who’s suffered a blunder when picking a name for their baby.

A recent post on Reddit revealed one couple were planning to name their child ‘Alibi’ as they’d heard it on the news.

But it seems they hadn’t really thought about the word’s meaning or what it would mean for the little girl’s future.

Their family weren’t afraid to tell them exactly what they thought of the choice of name, with one relative branding it “the worst name ever” and saying it “shouldn’t be legal” to call a child that.

Many people agreed, with one commenting: “Alibi is a terrible name for a child. You’ve apologised for hurting her feelings, that’s all you can do.”

Another wrote: “Parents who give their children stupid names are a**holes. Naming a child isn’t just a parent’s right but a responsibility. Anyone who doesn’t take that responsibility seriously with names like Alibi, Khaleesi, McKenzee, Paisleigh, etc., is clearly not thinking in their child’s best interests.”
