Parents, teachers and other stakeholders of education in Ningo in the Greater Accra region heaved a sigh of relief when the branded vehicles of the Multimedia Group and the vehicle from the presidency carrying the second lady started arriving in their community.
“The wait is over,” the adults said to one another with the children jumping up in in celebration.
Their happiness stemmed from the knowledge that children graduating from the upper primary section of the New Ningo D /A Primary B School would no longer have to trot to other communities to attend Junior High School (JHS).
One of the biggest challenges have been surmounted with the construction of a JHS Block for the school by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Multimedia Group Limited, Mr. Kwasi Twum and his siblings in memory of their late mother who had commissioned the primary school.
Seventeen years after commissioning the primary block of the school, the children of Manye Nueki Carboo stood on the same grounds to commission and unveil the JHS section, this time not donated by an NGO but by her children whom she had toiled to bring up.
And to crown her accomplishments in life, the block was named after her and a bust of her stood to welcome every school children and also told her success story.
The commissioning of the fully furnished block which also boasts of an ICT laboratory, place of convenience, staff common room, two five thousand poly tanks and a storeroom coincided with the birthday of the late mother of the CEO of the biggest media brand in Ghana, after whom the Block is named.
“Manye Nueki Carboo Memorial JHS is the name of the JHS block,” the second lady, Samira
Bawumia announced as she unveiled the plaque and bust of the woman who despite not completing her elementary school offered her six children the very best in education.
CEO of Multimedia Group, Kwesi Twum eulogized her late mother as someone who had the development of the Ningo Community at heart.
“We commission this Block in recognition of her life, achievements and more importantly her love for this Ningo community…clearly, her heart is in this school…,” Kwasi Twum said at the event.
Headmistress of the School, Patience Osei Poku expressed gratitude to the children of the late Manye Nueki Carboo for helping to solve the main challenge of the school.
“The main challenge we were facing was the issue of JHS because after educating our children from primary one to six, we have to give them out to other schools because we lacked JHS and that was a headache and by God’s grace, the children of Manye Nueki Carboo have come to our aid to solve the problem for us, so we are very grateful,” she said.
She said the block is going to help the teachers to monitor the development of the children from the school and would also serve surrounding communities.
The District Director of Education, Madam Matilda Quartey in her speech said efforts of central government alone cannot help in providing infrastructure for the growing class sizes,
hence the need for individuals to contribute their quota.
She described the architecture of the JHS block as one of the best in the District.
The event was attended by Chiefs in Ningo and surrounding communities as a parents and school children of the community.
