National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Amenfi West in the Western Region, Eric Afful, has threatened a demonstration over the bad nature of roads in the constituency.
According to Mr Afful, the poor state of roads in the Amenfi West District which is a major cocoa growing community in the Western Region is affecting cocoa production in the area.
“Demonstration is the only thing I can do now and I am serious because a lot of people are dying in the constituency. The interest of the people is the construction of the road but no work is going on in the constituency,” he said.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam show, Mr Afful said thousands of tonnes of cocoa beans are rotting in the bush due to the inability of farmers to cart their produce to selected marketing districts for sale.

“The stretch of the road from Mumuni to Samreboi which is the northern part and the major cocoa producing communities are all blocked and cut off from the rest of the communities,” he said.
He added: “Ghana doesn’t have money but I don’t understand why we will go and borrow money for cocoa production and leave the proceeds to rot away because of bad roads.”
