Jose Mourinho has launched an extraordinary rant on the Turkish league by saying there is a lot of “scandal” in the football games.

There was controversy in Saturday’s match where league leaders and current champions Galatasaray sealed a 2-1 victory over Goztepe.

Following the game, Goztepe released a long and detailed statement criticising the officiating in their defeat and called for a “temporary foreign referee system to be established immediately”.

Speaking after his Fenerbahce side claimed a 2-1 win against Hatayspor on Sunday, Mourinho weighed in on the matter and did not hold back in his post-match press conference.

“The only thing I can say is that after 25 years as a coach, and 35 in football, 10 as an assistant, I have never seen anything similar to this,” he explained. “It has a dimension that goes above anything that is understandable.

“I don’t think this is a situation that a club, a single club, a fighter, is going to destroy a system which is very strong and is in place.

“Yesterday, everyone was saying the same thing – scandal, scandal, scandal… I learned a new word. Scandal, scandal, scandal, but I think some of you like it. In this country, many people like it.

“Even the winners like it, which is the worst thing of all, because to win at any cost and in this way is the worst thing.

“Nothing to say about the player commitment. In terms of the trust, and the feeling that something is toxic? We feel, obviously we feel, and I think the opposition feels [it].”

This is not the first time that Mourinho has hit out at the refereeing in the league as he slammed the officials in November, and said his team were fighting against “the system”.

Fenerbahce find themselves eight points behind their bitter rivals in the title race, with Galatasaray enjoying an unbeaten start to the league campaign after 17 matches.

Mourinho also made headlines earlier this season for his incredible comments about the officiating after Fenerbahce drew 1-1 against Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League in October.
