Most Black Stars players want Andre Ayew sacked – Ex-NSA Board Chairman alleges

-

Former Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Kwadwo Baah Agyemang has alleged that some players of the Black Stars want Andre Ayew sacked from the team.

He claimed some of the players he engaged told him Ayew’s leadership negatively impacts team dynamics.

According to him, certain players have confidentially expressed their desire to see Ayew ousted from the team. They believe that his removal could lead to improvements in team performance and cohesion.

“Some of the veteran players, in particular, exert a negative influence and should be ousted. Their continued presence hampers team cohesion and unity. Dede Ayew should be relieved of his duties in the Black Stars. Introducing fresh faces could lead to a significant enhancement in team performance,” he told Kessben FM.

“He no longer wields improvement on the team and his presence brings a lot of issues. Most of the players feel he doesn’t help with their cohesion so they want him gone. I talk to a lot of the players.”

On the appointment of Black Stars coach, he emphasized the need for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint a coach who is well-versed in Ghanaian and African football dynamics.

According to him, the coach should understand player behaviour and dynamics within the team.

“We need to appoint a coach who understands Ghanaian football and the dynamics of our team. They should be knowledgeable about player behaviour. Additionally, some players may need to be dropped due to complaints against them,” Mr. Agyemang explained.

The GFA is currently in the process of selecting the next coach for the Black Stars following the dismissal of Chris Hughton after the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The Black Stars performance at the 2023 AFCON tournament saw the team exiting at the group stage. The team failed to secure a victory and managed only two draws against Egypt and Mozambique, respectively, after an initial defeat to Cape Verde.

This marks the second consecutive AFCON tournament in which the Black Stars have suffered an early exit.
