Mortuary workers to announce new date for its planned strike

-

The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) has rescheduled its planned strike aimed at demanding improved conditions of service.

General Secretary of MOWAG, Richard Kofi Jordan said although the strike was initially slated for October 10, it has been postponed.

This decision follows the expiration of a two-week ultimatum given government on October 9, calling for action on their demands.

The strike was intended to push for better working conditions, such as the provision of sufficient personal protective equipment (PPE), the payment of outstanding salary arrears, and financial clearance for the recruitment of 500 additional mortuary workers.

In an interview with Citi News, Mr Jordan expressed frustration with the government’s response, accusing it of lacking commitment to addressing their grievances.

“Data collection is ongoing regarding who qualifies for what benefits, but I believe it’s just a delay tactic. We won’t be swayed by this data issue,” Mr Jordan said.

“We will strike again very soon, likely within this month. We want to be strategic, ensuring our strike has maximum impact. The government needs to realize our significance in this country. So far, they’ve been neither faithful nor proactive in addressing our concerns,” he added.
