Fisherfolks, traders, and residents of Moree in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District of the Central Region are calling for the immediate relocation of the automated premix fuel station, citing safety risks to human lives and properties.
The concerned group has petitioned the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, to move the fuel station away from the market, lorry station, police station, and local council offices.
They fear that in the event of a fire outbreak or explosion, the densely populated area could suffer devastating consequences.
According to the traders, the location of the premix station poses a direct threat to their businesses and daily activities.
They are demanding that the facility be moved to the landing site, where it would be more suitable for fueling fishing boats without endangering the community.
Kojo Eyimah, a leader of the fishermen, has also urged the sector minister to clarify the source of funding for the construction of the premix station. He questioned whether the funds were drawn from Moree’s community premix proceeds or from government coffers.
The fishermen further alleged that they were not consulted before the project was undertaken, and their input was ignored despite being the primary users of the facility.
They are therefore insisting that the station be relocated to ensure their safety and that of the entire community.
