The Ghana Freedom Party(GFP) has formally confirmed the death of its founder and Presidential Candidate, Akua Donkor.
The GFP General Secretary, George Afful, said he received a call on Monday about Madam Donkor’s ill health but thought it was stress.
He was however silent on the exact sickness the deceased complained of.
“I travelled to Nsuta and Mampong for party activities on Friday and she even asked me not to stay long so I can return to monitor the printing of the ballot. So I came back on Monday afternoon,” he said.
She was rushed to Ridge Hospital and around 9 pm, Mr Afful disclosed Akua Donkor’s daughter, Mary called again to announce her death.
“We have a lot of inside jokes and songs we sing. So I rushed to the hospital with the hope that I could sing for her but all my attempts proved futile because she was not responsive. It was a difficult time for the family,” he said on Adom FM.
Mr Afful noted the family in Accra will return to Ridge Hospital on Tuesday morning with other relatives expected to come from Kumasi.
He also revealed Akua Donkor is survived by three children and acknowledged her death is indeed a big blow to Ghana.
She was 72 years.
