Unknown assailants have shot and killed a 33-year-old Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor at Manso-Asamang in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region.
The deceased, identified as Augustine Mensah, was attacked on Wednesday while returning home after performing a transaction at a customer’s house.
Reports indicate that Augustine had closed from work when he went to assist the customer. However, on his way back, he was ambushed and shot by unidentified individuals.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
An opinion leader, Stephen Agyei, confirmed the incident in an interview with Accra-based Citi News.
Police have launched an investigation into the killing, which has left residents in shock.
The body has been deposited at St. Martin’s Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Augustine’s death comes just weeks after the Chairman of the Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana (MoMAG), Joshua Edmundson, called for enhanced security measures to protect vendors following a surge in violent attacks.
He also highlighted the growing fear among MoMo agents, especially in light of recent high-profile robberies.
