Ghana international Mohammed Kudus has received an additional two-game suspension following his actions during West Ham United’s 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
The incident, which occurred in the 82nd minute, involved Kudus committing a foul on Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven, sparking a scuffle between players from both teams.
Van de Ven alleged that Kudus “punched him in the face,” while Kudus was also seen pushing Pape Matar Sarr.
Initially shown a yellow card by referee Andrew Madley, Kudus’ punishment was upgraded to a straight red card after a VAR review.
Kudus, who had earlier scored West Ham’s only goal in the London derby, will now face an additional two-match suspension and a £60,000 fine, adding to his initial three-game ban as determined by the Football Association’s review.
Kudus’ original suspension was due to end after West Ham’s upcoming match against Everton, but he will now miss games against Newcastle United and Arsenal as well, returning only after the international break.
West Ham United has also been fined £30,000 for failing to control their players during the altercation.
An FA statement read, “West Ham United and Mohammed Kudus have been sanctioned in relation to incidents during their Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, 19 October.
“It was alleged that the club failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper, provocative, and/or violent way around the 82nd minute. West Ham United admitted to this charge, and an independent Regulatory Commission subsequently fined the club £30,000.
“It was also alleged that Mohammed Kudus acted in an improper manner and/or used violent conduct after the offence for which he was sent off. The forward admitted to this charge, and he has been given a two-match suspension and £60,000 fine by the Regulatory Commission.”
The statement also noted that Kudus admitted to charges of improper and violent conduct, leading to his two-match suspension and £60,000 fine.
Kudus has already missed matches against Manchester United and Nottingham Forest due to the initial ban, which concludes this weekend as West Ham faces Everton. He is expected to return to the lineup for West Ham’s away game against Leicester City on December 3.
