Mobilization of GH¢120m seed Capital for new regions begin

Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has said the process of mobilization of GH¢120 million as seed money for the provision of critical infrastructure in the new regions has taken off.

According to him, the Ministry of Finance is already working on the first quarter disbursement for the regions.

“The process of mobilisation has already started. I know the finance department is already working on the first quarter disbursement where each of the newly created regions will have their share,” he stated.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah was speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Tuesday.

Each region he said is expected to receive GH¢20 million for the provision of social amenities such as hospitals, schools, roads, among others.

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has chosen Nalerigu as the capital of the newly created North East region.

He disclosed this Tuesday at the Jubilee House in Accra, at a ceremony to present Constitutional Instruments (CI 116) to give effect to the creation of the North East and Savahhan regions.

The two regions together with Oti, Bono East, Ahafo and Western North were created following a successful referendum last year.

Asked why the government chose Nalerigu as the capital of the newly created North East region, the information minister explained that “The choice of capital is the decision of the president. He consulted some key people who agreed to choose that place as the capital” he noted.
