The Constituency Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Atiwa East, Eastern Region, has dismissed recent attacks on its constituency chairman, Ernest Owusu Ntim, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.
According to the executives, the attacks are part of an orchestrated agenda by a few disgruntled individuals seeking to tarnish the image of Mr. Ntim, who is a frontrunner for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position for the area.
At a press conference held in Anyinam, the Constituency Executive Committee, supported by ward coordinators, urged the party’s hierarchy to disregard any petitions or complaints lodged against the chairman.
They asserted that Mr. Ntim’s growing support across the constituency has made him a target. “These attacks stem from jealousy and fear of his widespread endorsement. They are coming from individuals who were largely absent during our campaign season,” said William Addo Kyei, the Constituency Youth Organizer.
He added, “Their actions are clearly driven by personal vendetta and should not be taken seriously.”
The group praised Mr. Ntim’s unwavering commitment to the party, highlighting his personal contributions to recent campaign efforts.
According to them, he funded campaign materials and logistics, supported the parliamentary candidate, and implemented key social interventions such as providing school furniture, student footwear, and boreholes to water-deprived communities.
“Mr. Ntim has not only shown leadership but also invested heavily in the development of the constituency in support of the party’s electoral fortunes,” Addo Kyei noted.
They further dismissed suggestions that a parliamentary candidate might be more qualified for the DCE position, arguing that loyalty, grassroots connection, and consistent service should be prioritized.
“A person who contested and lost an election does not automatically become more qualified than someone who has led the party for over ten years and holds a Master’s degree. Mr. Owusu Ntim is our best choice,” a spokesperson added.
The lobbying for the DCE role in Atiwa East has intensified ahead of President John Mahama’s expected appointment of one of the contenders.
