Musician Guru, who currently serves as the SRC President of the University of Ghana, has sparked mixed reactions after footage surfaced showing him celebrating in his official SRC office.
In what appeared to be a mini concert, Guru and his entourage energetically performed some of his hit songs, including Lapaz Toyota, Kasiebo featuring Obrafour, and Meba Be Tia Wo featuring Lil Win.
The atmosphere in the office was loud and lively, resembling an entertainment hub rather than an administrative space.
The viral video has triggered divided opinions among students and the general public. While some argue that Guru deserves to unwind since he was in the entertainment industry before assuming office, others insist that the SRC office should be a space for serious leadership and decision-making.
The University’s official social media platform, where the video was shared, questioned his actions, captioning the footage: “Student leadership comes with responsibilities, including maintaining the integrity of official spaces. Seeing the SRC President’s office being used for casual entertainment makes one wonder about the standards we uphold as the premier university.”
However, others defended him, stating that his background in entertainment does not disqualify him from leadership and that his ability to connect with students in a relaxed setting could be an asset.
