Misuse of corsets can lead to severe health risks – Doctor warns

-

A medical officer at Aneeja Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Kwaku Nimoh has issued a strong warning about the potential health risks associated with the improper use of corsets, a trend which has gained popularity among young women.

Speaking to Adom News, Dr Nimoh cautioned that wearing corsets for long periods could result in serious health complications, including heartburn, indigestion, and even cancer.

He stressed the importance of understanding the risks before embracing this fashion trend, which has been fueled by celebrities, social media, and the pursuit of an ideal body shape.

The corset trend, while traditionally associated with women, has also seen interest from men.

Many women wear corsets for post-partum support or to enhance their appearance, hoping to achieve the coveted hourglass figure over time.

However, opinions on the effectiveness of corsets remain divided.

In interviews with vendors at Makola market, some believe that corsets can help achieve the desired figure but others remain skeptical.

“People claim corsets burn fat, but I don’t believe it,” said a vendor.

Women who use corsets say it boost their image and prevents them from going under the knife for procedures like Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery.

However, Dr. Nimoh has emphasised that while corsets may offer temporary support, they do not provide a permanent solution for body shaping.

He has urged individuals considering corset use to consult with a medical professional first, underscoring the importance of making informed decisions about their health.
