President John Mahama has officially renamed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation as part of a broader governmental restructuring effort.
The renaming, carried out under Section 11 (3) of the Civil Service Act, 1993 (P.N.D.C. Law 327), separates the previously combined sports and youth sectors into distinct ministries.
Consequently, the youth-focused arm will now operate independently as the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.
This change is part of a streamlined approach that has reduced the total number of ministries to 23, down from the previous administration’s 30.
In related developments, President Mahama is expected to announce the appointment of a new Sports Minister in the coming week.
Former Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuije is rumored to be a strong contender for the role.
