The Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Benard Ahiafor, on Monday temporarily suspended proceedings following misunderstandings among Members of Parliament (MPs).
This occurred while Roads and Highways Minister-designate, Kwame Governs Agbodza, sat before the committee waiting to be vetted.
The five-minute suspension followed prolonged heated exchanges between the MPs, which disrupted the session.
“I suspend the sitting for five minutes,” Chairman Ahiafor declared, as tensions escalated in the room.
The disagreement was triggered by Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s concerns about urgent national issues during the ministerial vetting process.
However, the Majority caucus strongly opposed Afenyo-Markin’s move, arguing that the vetting process was not the appropriate forum.
This resulted in over an hour of exchanges, with both sides remaining adamant in their positions.
The deadlock prompted the Chairman to intervene and call for a brief suspension of the sitting to allow tempers to cool and the matter to be addressed.
