Military officer shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bawku

-

An officer of the Ghana Armed Forces has reportedly been shot dead following a brutal attack by unidentified armed men in Bawku, in the Upper East Region.

News of the incident has gone viral on social media, with many sharing reports of the fatal shooting of the officer, believed to be a warrant officer.

He was reportedly on foot when he was targeted by the gunmen and shot dead.

Tensions in the troubled Bawku enclave have escalated in recent weeks, with a series of deadly attacks.

In February, a woman and her two daughters were killed in their home, allegedly by men in military uniform.

Since then, relations between some civilians and the military have become strained, with some even calling for the withdrawal of soldiers from the volatile town.

This latest killing of a soldier has heightened tensions, with fears that the military could launch an operation in response to track down the perpetrators.

Residents and concerned individuals commenting on social media have expressed frustration and called on the government to act decisively, following its promise to end the conflict.

Many fear that with armed men now emboldened to attack soldiers, the situation is becoming increasingly dangerous.
