Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has indicated that the club plans to discuss Thomas Partey’s future as his contract approaches expiration at the end of the season.
After a challenging season marked by injuries in 2023/24, Partey has seen a resurgence this year, starting in all of Arsenal’s Premier League and Champions League matches so far.
The Ghana midfielder has stepped up in the absence of injured captain Martin Ødegaard, demonstrating his versatility by occasionally filling in at right-back due to the unavailability of Ben White, Jurrien Timber, and Takehiro Tomiyasu.
There were expectations that Partey might depart the Emirates over the summer, especially with the signing of Mikel Merino, but interest in his transfer was minimal.
With his contract expiring next summer, this could potentially be Partey’s final season in north London.
However, following his strong performances, Arteta mentioned in a press conference on Friday that there may be an opportunity for the 30-year-old to extend his tenure with the club.
“He [Thomas Partey] is only 31, and he’s in a really good place, and yeah, we’ll have discussions,” Arteta stated.
Arsenal is set to face Newcastle United in an early kick-off at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
Partey joined Arsenal in 2020 for £45 million and has since made 128 appearances for the club.
