Meet Juventus Duorinaah Ghana’s first hearing-impaired lawyer

-

Juventus Duorinaah has made history as the first hearing-impaired lawyer in Ghana.

This marks a significant milestone and inspiration for both the legal profession and the People Living with Disability in Ghana.

Mr Duorinaah was part of the 777 new lawyers who were enrolled on Friday, October 11, 2024.

The colourful ceremony took place at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Born in Wa of the Upper West Region, he began his education at the Wa School for the Deaf.

In 2007, Mr Duorinaah graduated from the Senior High Technical School for the Deaf (SHTSD) and in his quest to break barriers, defied all odds to seek higher education.

He enrolled at the University of Ghana (UG), where he bagged a first-class degree in Sociology and Political Science.

He subsequently made international waves when he pursued a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Human Rights Law from the School of Law and Politics at Cardiff University in the UK.

Mr Duorinaah enrolled in the LLB programme at UG, graduating with second-class lower honours upon his return to Ghana.

He successfully passed the entrance exams for the Ghana School of Law, where he endured six years of rigorous training.

The Ghana School of Law financially supported him with a sign language interpreter throughout Juventus Duorinaah’s education, covering the costs entirely, and ensuring that his legal studies proceeded smoothly without any additional expenses on his part.
