The Media Coalition Against Galamsey has announced plans to hold a “red band” protest against illegal mining, in support of Organised Labour’s indefinite strike set to begin on October 10, 2024.
Convener of the Coalition, Kenneth Ashigbey, made this known in an interview on Accra-based Citi FM on Wednesday, October 9.
He explained that, the protest is intended to amplify demands for the government to take stronger action against the galamsey crisis, following its failure to meet calls for a ban on illegal mining.
Protesters are encouraged to wear red bands on their arms or heads, and tie red bands on vehicles such as cars, motorbikes, and bicycles to show solidarity.
Additionally, supporters are urged to share photos and videos of their involvement on social media using the hashtags #StopGalamseyNow, #SaveOurLand, and #SaveOurFuture.
In a public notice, the Coalition called on Ghanaians to continue the protest indefinitely until the government implements decisive measures to stop illegal mining.
