Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to critically reflect on its governance mistakes following its heavy defeat in the 2024 general elections.
President John Dramani Mahama secured victory, while the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, failed to garner enough votes to win.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Kpebu attributed the party’s loss to arrogance and poor governance, accusing its leadership of ignoring valuable advice from stakeholders.
He also warned against selecting a future candidate with leadership traits similar to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“You guys did a good job in the 2024 election—the whole year, Joy FM, Citi FM, and TV3—you did great. That is why we were able to vote out the NPP for bad governance. I hope they will learn their lesson and come back better next time,” he remarked.
He further criticized the party’s attitude, stating, “You should go and learn governance. The arrogance was too much, the attitude—as if you were the only Ghanaians. Please learn, learn. Don’t bring someone in the nature of Akufo-Addo again.”
